Position Summary:
The custodian is responsible for maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff, visitors and the public. Provide equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and other events as needed. Minimize property damage, loss and liability exposures to the Academy.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 4 years of professional or industrial cleaning experience
- Required to perform multiple non-technical tasks
- Self-motivated and positive attitude
- Ability to perform basic math, read and follow instructions and understand multi-step written and oral instructions
- Good organizational skills
- Knowledge of custodial supplies and cleaning methods and techniques
- Ability to operate various types of equipment (vacuums, floor buffers, etc.)
- Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and written with staff, students, visitors and the public
- Problem solving
Responsibilities:
- Arrange furnishings and equipment in preparation for meetings, classroom activities and events as needed
- Attend all professional development/in-service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, first aid, cleaning solvents, floor care, etc.)
- Clean assigned areas to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
- Daily attendance and punctuality are required to meet the goals of the work unit
- Responsible to immediate safety and/or operational concerns to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning physical and educational environment
- Inspect Academy facilities to ensure suitability for safe operations; maintain in an attractive and clean condition and identify any repairs that may be necessary due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
- Perform work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders and/or scaffolding for the purpose of cleaning, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, etc.
- Prepare Academy facilities for daily operations to ensure Academy facilities are operational and safe
- Secure Academy facilities (e.g., locked doors) and ground to minimize property damage, equipment loss and any potential liability to the Academy
- Service job-related machinery/equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling vacuums, cleaners, scrubbers, etc.) to maintain equipment in good working condition. Also, change burses, pad, rollers, etc. on equipment as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
This position requires extensive standing and walking throughout the work shift. Must have the ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to use senses: sight, hearing, smell and touch.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under some hazardous conditions.
