Professional Tutor - Math Tutorial and Computer Lab - Part time

The position is at Grand Rapids Community College's Academic Support & Tutoring Services. It involves providing tutoring to students and overseeing the Mathematics Tutorial & Computer Lab. The applicant should be interested in working with a diverse group of learners. The job requires up to 28 hours of work per week, with a pay range of $12. 50 to $19. 50 based on qualifications. The position will be open for applications starting on March 18, 2025, until it is filled.
Essential responsibilities include offering tutoring both in person and online, demonstrating knowledge of the relevant curriculum, preparing review materials, supervising and mentoring student tutors, maintaining good relationships with students and staff, and promoting independent learning. Additional tasks involve managing lab resources, updating the lab's online platform, monitoring lab attendance, discussing services with students, addressing any issues in the lab, attending meetings, and following privacy policies.
Qualifications preferred for this role include having an associate degree or higher and prior teaching or tutoring experience. Candidates should also show proficiency in content knowledge, possess good people skills, and be able to work with various educational and cultural backgrounds. Effective communication and professionalism are important, along with organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical demands of the job include interacting with students, standing for tutoring sessions, and managing equipment up to 20 pounds. Mentally, the role requires adaptability, customer service skills, and problem-solving abilities.
