Role Description
The Inventory Specialist is responsible for assessing vehicles to determine whether they should be crushed or salvaged, inventorying and pricing parts based on condition and mileage, and categorizing parts for warehouse storage, dismantling, or resale. They also inspect vehicles upon arrival, adjust part descriptions after testing, manage high-value items to prevent damage, and use VIN decoders to ensure accurate part interchangeability. Additional duties include maintaining records, tagging engines for scrap or core, taking photos for online listings, and coordinating vehicle deliveries from auctions.
Responsibilities:
· Determine whether a vehicle is crushed or put on the shelf.
· Inventory vehicle and price parts based on condition and/or milage.
· Determine whether a part is categorized warehouse, unbolted, or bolted based on request of sales, quantity on hand and what is designated to be removed during the dismantle process.
· If a vehicle is scheduled to be crushed, go through the remaining parts list of vehicles, and determine whether it becomes a warehouse part, or whether the part is cored.
· List any high dollar parts as bolted on the vehicle to refrain from having any damage done during the dismantle process.
· When purchased vehicles arrive from auction, inspect the vehicle from all sides and determine whether parts will be removed.
· Pre-inventory any vehicles in transit to the yard if all vehicles at the yard have completed the inventory process.
· Once vehicles are tested, adjust part description and pricing based on test done.
· Assign bad engines as scrap or core and tag any core engines properly.
· Utilize vin decoders to determine the correct interchange for parts for inventory.
· Accurately describe condition of parts when going through inventory process in YMS.
· Inspect the vehicle at all angles to ensure proper description is provided for body parts.
· Take pictures of vehicles to post on Car-Part.com, when needed.
· Accurately list the side and position of parts in the description.
· Print out tags and dismantling report and place in the dismantlers box.
· Scan shelf cars to determine which vehicles can be designated for crushing.
· Pay for any purchased vehicles from the auction.
· Fill out vehicle purchased spreadsheet with proper information and provide to tow company.
· Keep track of purchased vehicles to ensure vehicles are delivered to proper yards.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have an active driver license, preferably a chauffeur’s license
- Product knowledge and the ability to identify automotive parts
- Ability to follow navigation systems and roadways
- Prior cash handling experience is a plus
- Ability to multi task and assign work as needed
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in warehouse/distribution center
- Reliable, punctual and safety-minded, with a strong work ethic
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
- Prior experience driving and making deliveries
- Basic computer knowledge and computer/tablet experience, ability to multi task.
- Experience in the automotive industry is a plus

The physical requirements for an Inventory Specialist in the auto parts and salvage industry typically include:
· Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50-60 pounds, which may include heavy items like engine blocks and core barrels.
· Mobility and Flexibility: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, often up to 10 hours a day, and perform tasks that involve bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
· Use of Equipment: May require the use of hand trucks, barrel dollies, hydraulic lifts, stools, or ladders to access high shelves or move heavy equipment.
· Sensory Requirements: Adequate hearing and visual acuity are necessary to perform tasks safely and effectively.
