Pay Rate: $16.80 per hour
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, implementation and instruction of quality recreation activities for children and youth at the Summit on the Park.

- Leads dynamic group programs, creating an inviting, fun, friendly and comfortable atmosphere for program participants and visitors.
- Maintains and displays extensive knowledge related to children, youth and recreation programming.
- Responsible for keeping abreast of community needs and current trends in the recreation field to ensure the delivery of quality customer service for program and activity participants and guests.
- Greets and interacts with participants, families and community members in a positive and friendly manner and provides excellent customer service.
- Responsible for providing a fun and stimulating learning environment for all children and youth.
- Ensures safety rules, policies, regulations and procedures are followed by the public, participants and employees.
- Creates age-appropriate programming and adapts classes to meet participants' attention level.
- Displays a positive and professional attitude toward class participants and fellow employees.
- Responsible for planning and preparing lessons and classes in an organized and efficient manner.
- Assists with department-wide special events.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS—KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum age of 18 years old.
- High School diploma or GED required. Some higher education classes in a related field preferred.
- Prior experience working with children and youth.
- Previous experience working with the public in a mature and responsible manner.
- Ability to compassionately and effectively instruct children.
- Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities.
- Strong organizational and communication skills required.
- Demonstrated friendly and enthusiastic personality.
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously.
- Must obtain CPR/AED and first aid certification within 30 days of employment. CPR/AED and first aid classes are free to Township employees. Certification through an organization approved by Michigan's Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing division, may also be accepted.
- Must be willing to conform to department uniform policy.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
- This is an "At-Will" position. Work assignments and hours scheduled are based on availability, division requirements and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting and staff availability.
