General Summary:
Saginaw Public Schools Teachers are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement engaging instructional activities

• Modify resources to address diverse student needs

• Teach approved curriculum

• Support curriculum development and improvement

• Maintain thorough records

• Foster a positive and productive learning environment

• Communicate effectively with families and colleagues

• Collaborate with peers to improve instruction

• Model professionalism and ethics

• Support student performance goals

• Assist students with toileting as needed

• Direct and utilize classroom aides effectively

• Make home visits when appropriate

• Conduct developmental screenings and assessments

• Write IEPs and IFSPs with appropriate goals and objectives

• Schedule and facilitate IEP/IFSP meetings

• Perform additional duties as assigned

• Plan group and individual activities to promote development

• Use instructional materials suited for a range of abilities

• Promote creative expression in art, music, and dramatic play

• Reinforce appropriate behavior and social skills

• Provide small group and individual instruction based on student needs

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

• Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate required

• Must have a special education endorsement and a major/minor in early childhood education or child development

  • Note: Candidates with a ZA or ZS endorsement along with a special education endorsement are exempt from this requirement

• Knowledge of preschool special education philosophy and curriculum

• Understanding of instructional strategies, assessments, and behavioral supports

• Strong collaboration and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and lead others

• Proactive interaction with parents

• Familiarity with state standards and assessment tools
