Summary:
This job is semi-skilled work involved in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of water distribution system appurtenances. The worker is pati of a crew under the direction of management. Workers, however, are expected to perform some maintenance and repair tasks with minimal supervismy input. This job requires knowledge of water distribution.
Duties may include:
- Operate tapping machine to tap into the water main and set all appurtenances on the water line extension.
- Pressure test service lines, set meters and inspect premises for cross-connections, preparing brief reports on same.
- Operate, maintain and repair water line valves, fire hydrants and all other appurtenances.
- Operate dump truck and other assigned mobile equipment.
- Being responsible for checking the safety and operation of all assigned equipment.
- Occasionally lead the crew in performing routine work under general supervision of Foreman or management when not operating equipment.
- Service requests as related to meters (such as repairs, replacement/including all tasks of meter installation and maintenance)
- Performs all functions of lab operation
- Performs all functions of meter reading for billing purposes
- Assist the vehicle mechanic if needed and/or perform minor vehicle maintenance.
- Maintain and clean up facilities and equipment as assigned.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Be aware of occupational hazards and safety hazards of the work.
- Be able to perform physical work in all types of weather.
- Respond to emergency calls for repairs received after normal working hours.
Minimum Experience and Training:
Possession of high school diploma, or the equivalent, is required. Experience in field operations of water distribution or sanitary/storm sewer facilities is preferred. Possession of valid Michigan motor vehicle license with valid CDL or the ability to acquire.
