Job description:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in operating various types of heavy machinery including Excavators, Skid steers, and Front-End Loaders. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of equipment during projects, contributing to the overall success of our operations.
Compensation:
- $22.00 to $30 Per Hour Based on Experience
- Class A CDL Preferred
- S-4 Water License Preferred
- Equipment Operating Background
- Township Phone Provided
Emergence Call Out Pay:
- 2 hours of pay for any callout and then time and a half for everything over 2 hours.
- Callouts consist of emergency water breaks, sewer pumps failures, lift stations issues, etc.
Paid Time Off:
- 4 hours per pay period (80 hours) 1-3 years of employment. = 13 days
- 6 hours per pay period (80 hours) 3-15 years of employment. = 19.5 days
- 8 hours per pay period (80 hours) 15 years + years of employment. = 26 days
The Township observes the following paid holidays:

Sick Time:
- 4 hours per pay period (80 hours) 1-3 years of employment. = 13 days

Skills:
- Proven experience in heavy equipment operation with a strong focus on safety.
- Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on machinery.
- Familiarity with commercial driving regulations and practices.
- Experience operating various types of construction equipment such as Excavators, Skid steers, and Front-End Loaders

Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly, Non-exempt. Hourly Rate based on qualifications and prior experience, established by Board of Trustees. (3) Holidays and (4) Personal Days, Retirement/Pension Investment.
Job Summary:
Reports to the Cemetery Sexton. Maintains the grounds, mowing, trimming, leaf vacuuming/blowing for removal, and operating other pieces of power equipment needed to perform the job. Provides supervision to volunteer and non-volunteer workers. Outdoor environmental conditions require standing, bending, stooping, stretching and working in confined spaces during all season/weather conditions and lifting of supplies and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Seventeen years of age and/or a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with power equipment relating to parks and landscaping activities. A valid Michigan Driver’s license. Experience maintaining and repairing small equipment and machinery.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mows grass, rakes grounds, and does brushing as required. Maintains the aesthetics of the cemetery and surrounding grounds.
- Works in a safe manner not endangering self or others and follows OSHA and MIOSHA rules relating to grounds maintenance, grave excavation, and equipment operation.
- Excavate graves and make safe vault placements as outlined by State Law.
- Places fall/winter deceased in the cemetery vault and removes deceased for spring burial.
- Works with Sexton to inform the public of the services supplied and costs for burials.
- Monitors maintain and extend the irrigation system used by the public for plot maintenance.
- Operates all power and manual tools used for maintenance and grounds keeping activities at the cemetery.
- Assists the Sexton with burial records.
- Reports time bi-weekly on Township’s timecard.
