Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is seeking compassionate, attentive Patient Care Sitters to join our Nursing Relief Pool. In this important support role, you will provide one-on-one patient observation and help ensure a safe, calming environment for patients who require continuous monitoring.

Position Purpose
As a Patient Care Sitter, you will function as part of the healthcare team under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Using a Patient-Focused Care approach, you will provide direct observation for a designated group of patients, helping support safety, comfort, and emotional well-being.
Schedules Available
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Full-Time, Part-Time, and Contingent/PRN roles
- Every other weekend & 3 holidays/year required for Full-Time and Part-Time team members
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
Skills & Attributes
- Ability to maintain continuous, distraction-free observation
- Strong communication skills to report patient concerns to the RN promptly
- Compassion, patience, and respect for patient dignity and cultural needs
- Commitment to maintaining a calm, safe environment
- Ability to remain with the patient until proper hand-off occurs
What You Will Do
- Provide continuous patient observation following department guidelines
- Maintain an environment free of distractions to ensure patient safety
- Report changes in patient behavior, condition, or incidents to the RN promptly
- Support patient comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being
- Respect patient rights, values, cultural preferences, and privacy
- Ensure safe hand-offs by remaining with the patient until properly relieved
Working Environment
Patient Care Sitters work throughout the hospital in a supportive, team-centered environment. This role involves long periods of remaining in close proximity to the patient and requires focus, attentiveness, and adherence to safety protocols.
