Hospital Transporter – Full-Time, Days

Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is seeking a compassionate and reliable Hospital Transporter to safely move patients throughout the hospital. This is a vital, patient-facing role that supports clinical teams, enhances patient experience, and ensures efficient hospital operations.
Position Summary
The Hospital Transporter is responsible for transporting patients to and from various departments in a safe, timely, and courteous manner. This role also ensures transport equipment is clean, functional, and ready for use. Transporters play an essential role in patient comfort, safety, and communication.
What You’ll Do
- Safely transport and transfer patients throughout the hospital using proper body mechanics and safety standards
- Prioritize patient transport requests and support clinical workflows
- Maneuver associated equipment such as oxygen tanks, pumps, and other devices as needed
- Greet patients respectfully and explain the purpose of each transport
- Communicate effectively with nurses, clinical teams, and family members
- Verify patient identity and confirm transport destinations
- Use proper infection control and isolation techniques; report precautions when necessary
- Secure patients safely using belts and restraints and lock equipment brakes before transfers
- Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies
- Maintain and clean transport equipment; report any defective or unsafe equipment
- Complete documentation accurately and maintain productivity standards
- Support departmental and organizational values, policies, and safety procedures
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
Licensure / Certification
- Current Heart Saver Certification required
Skills & Aptitudes
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 100% of the shift
- Ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and assist in patient transfers using proper body mechanics
- Ability to push/pull up to 200 lbs when transporting patients
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of hospital staff
Experience
- Previous patient transport or hospital experience preferred, but not required
Working Conditions
- Continuous walking and standing
- Frequent bending, lifting, and patient positioning
- Exposure to hospital environmental conditions
- Use of required PPE and adherence to safety procedures
