Position Summary
The Porter performs a variety of sanitation and support tasks within the Food Services Department, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This includes maintaining clean areas, assisting with supplies, and supporting operational efficiency in accordance with hospital standards.
What You’ll Do
- Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and maintain a neat, orderly work area.
- Perform routine surface cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing using manual tools and commercial cleaning equipment.
- Assist with receiving, storing, delivering, and disbursing food and supply items.
- Complete deep-cleaning projects and other assigned sanitation work.
- Handle trash removal and clean trash receptacles across Food Services areas, including prep, service, storage, dining, and physician areas.
- Support team operations by performing additional duties as needed.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment operation, and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, push, and pull heavy or awkward items using carts or other equipment.
- Strong customer service skills for interacting with hospital staff, customers, and community members.
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures and humidity levels.
- Regular lifting from floor to shoulder—up to 55 pounds.
- Requires bending, stooping, and being in awkward positions as needed.
- Standing for 100% of the shift.
- Pushing carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
