Job Summary: To engage at-risk students improving their deficiencies, thereby giving them the opportunity to develop the organizational skills necessary for success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Directed Learning Room supervisor identify student deficiencies.
- Assist teachers, counselors and principals identify students whom are failing courses.
- Implement intervention strategies to assist students to succeed in their academics.
- Provide supplemental instruction and assist students with organization skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
- Monitor student grades via PIV to document increased organizational skills and academic achievement.
- Provide written documentation to Assistant Principals and Principals regarding student participation, student achievement, staff referrals and any student behavioral concerns.
- Implement remedial programs academic areas with individual or small groups of students.
- Assist in the assessment of student progress.
- Communicate frequently with teachers.
- Assist in behavior management efforts.
- May perform some minimal clerical functions.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate’s degree or higher OR the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).
- Experience working with children.
- Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication.
- A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
