Position Summary
Under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant provides hands-on treatment to patients recovering from injury, illness, or musculoskeletal conditions. This role focuses on improving mobility, relieving pain, restoring function, and helping patients achieve greater independence.
Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies appropriate to the populations served.
What You’ll Do
Clinical Responsibilities
• Implement treatment plans and goals established by the Physical Therapist
• Provide direct patient care, including therapeutic exercise and modalities (electrical, mechanical, heat treatments, etc.)
• Lead individual and group therapy sessions
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on treatment and recovery
• Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions and care coordination
• Assist with program development and quality improvement initiatives
• Serve as a clinical resource within areas of expertise
• Support student rotations and provide mentorship as needed
• Cross-train to provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services when required
Administrative Responsibilities
• Document patient care accurately and timely within the electronic health record
• Maintain complete and compliant patient records
• Communicate any documentation barriers to leadership
• Participate in committees, process improvement initiatives, and departmental projects
• Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers
Qualifications
Required:
• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• Michigan PTA license in good standing
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Basic computer and documentation skills
Preferred:
• Prior Physical Therapist Assistant experience
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role involves frequent standing and walking, assisting with patient mobility, and occasional lifting. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
