Engineering Specialist - Gear Machining (Launch Process Engineer)
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay Rate: $42.30/hour
Shift: Morning Shift | 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Overtime: Required, up to 20 hours/week

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Specialist - Gear Machining to support manufacturing launch activities. This role partners closely with Ford headquarters launch teams and suppliers to ensure new gear machining lines are delivered successfully, meeting key quality, safety, productivity, and throughput targets for long-term production success.
Key Responsibilities
Support Manufacturing Process Engineering activities for gear machining operations
Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and throughput
Complete and manage PPAP quality launch documentation
Apply engineering principles to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes
Develop and execute action plans to investigate open issues and verify corrective actions
Lead process audits to ensure compliance with Powertrain guidelines
Conduct ergonomic job evaluations and implement corrective actions
Create and maintain process documentation and work instructions
Deliver capable processes, tooling, and methods for all gear machining operations
Lead variability reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives
Support ISO 14001 compliance and internal audits
Identify throughput constraints and drive root cause improvements to achieve Rate of Climb targets
Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Process Engineering
Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and manufacturing processes
Proven leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ability to demonstrate ONE FORD leadership behaviors
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Preferred Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Gear machining or powertrain manufacturing experience
Hypoid bevel gear process knowledge (blanking, milling, grinding, heat treat, shot peening)
Experience with QDAS, Minitab, and gear CMM systems (Klingelnberg P40, Gleason Nano)
Lean Six Sigma experience (DMAIC, DFSS)
Corrective action methods: 8D, 5-Why, CAPA
Experience with FMEA, PPAP, DOE, and advanced quality tools
Familiarity with 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping
Education
Required: High School Diploma / GED
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
