Job Overview
The Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering (VPSE) - Calibration Team is seeking an experienced Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineer (Calibration) to develop and deliver production-ready drivability, emissions, and OBD calibrations for internal combustion and hybrid powertrains.
This is a hands-on engineering role for experienced calibration engineers-not entry-level and not a management position. The ideal candidate can independently deliver calibrations that meet program, regulatory, quality, and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, test, and deliver production-ready engine and hybrid calibrations for:
Drivability
Emissions
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD)
Perform in-vehicle and laboratory testing; collect, analyze, and interpret calibration data
Conduct on-road and test-cell calibration work (not simulation-only)
Troubleshoot issues and drive calibration solutions to closure
Support testing at domestic proving grounds, including:
Dearborn, MI
Northern Michigan
Arizona
Colorado
Document calibration results and present findings to engineering and program stakeholders
Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, quality, and performance standards
Required Skills & Experience (Non-Negotiable)
Direct, hands-on engine or hybrid calibration experience is REQUIRED
Calibration experience only (test-only engineers do not meet this requirement)
2+ years of hands-on calibration experience (5+ years preferred) in:
Drivability
Emissions
OBD
Strong proficiency with calibration and data analysis tools, such as:
ETAS INCA
ATI Vision
MATLAB / Simulink
Experience performing on-road and test-cell calibration work
Strong data acquisition, analysis, and problem-solving skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of engine or hybrid powertrain calibration experience
Experience supporting multiple vehicle programs or propulsion architectures
Strong technical documentation and presentation skills
Familiarity with production launch and regulatory certification processes
Education
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
