Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Assistant performs pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks including specimen processing, data entry, quality checks, and patient interaction. This role ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with OSHA and departmental safety standards.
Key Responsibilities

Prioritize and process incoming specimens following safety guidelines

Verify patient identification and ensure specimen integrity

Label, sort, rack, and deliver specimens to appropriate laboratory departments

Enter and review laboratory data accurately in the computer system

Draw blood samples when required (if qualified)

Maintain cleanliness of work area, equipment, and supplies

Perform clerical tasks including answering phones and scheduling

Conduct routine equipment inspections and quality control checks

Communicate professionally with patients and healthcare staff
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Minimum 6 months of experience in medical or healthcare environment (Lab Assistant, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist, or related health science field)

Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Customer service experience preferred

Phlebotomy certification preferred (if applicable)
