Our Troy, MI customer is seeking an experienced Automotive OEM Technical Sales Engineer (Wire Harnesses; Connectors; Cables; Hoses; etc.) for a direct hire position. Base salary in open, and there is an available bonus, but no commission structure.
Will be reporting to the International Sales Manager who is located in Italy.
This position is a medium-to-high level sales position responsible for program support and management of harness and component products for automotive OEM accounts (primarily Ford, Chrysler & GM, but other OEMs are included). The individual will be responsible for increasing existing business and developing the customer base. The Automotive OEM Sales Engineer will also search for and develop prospective customers for automotive business. This will be accomplished by providing market survey and updated market links where the company’s solutions shall be presented for designing in the company’s standard, custom and semi-custom products.
The individual must be able to interface with the company’s customers and internal staff in the areas of OEM applications, connectors and component product design. This is to include antennae and data harness, connectors, and washer hose component materials; geometric design and tolerancing; electrical and electronic signal characteristics; thermal properties; and the overall design of the company’s product lines as they relate to specific applications.
Responsibilities:
- Selling wire harnesses, antennae cables, USB data cables, terminals, connectors, washer hose systems, etc. in mass quantity.
- Participate in program management for design-in; development and utilization of the company products at key customers
- Understand customer application requirements and develop suitable solutions
- Provide recommendations to customers regarding their harness or component application requirements
- Interface between the customer and the company’s product design, marketing, quality and manufacturing groups/departments
- Participate in industry trade association meetings and committees as deemed necessary by the company management
- Provide sales and booking forecasts for assigned accounts
- Represent the company at various industry trade shows as directed by management
- Develop new automotive business opportunities
- Maintain and improve technical knowledge relating to wiring harness products and their applications
- Initiate and maintain customer/supplier relationships
- Support customer’s customer service and quality issues
Requirements:
- Degree, not necessarily a BSEE, but that would be helpful
- Experience with electrical and/or electronic components/devices is required (Preferred in one or more of the following: wire harnesses, antennae cables, USB data cables, terminals, connectors, washer hose systems, etc. in mass quantity). Can teach the products, but needs some electrical/electronic knowledge
- Minimum of 5 years’ of automotive OEM (Big 3 – Ford, Chrysler, GM) sales experience dealing with Purchasing Depts and other individuals that have purchasing power. Candidate should have key contacts at OEMs. Would also help if the candidate had experience dealing with Sumitomo, Delphi, Molex, TE Tyco, Amphenol, Yazaki, Lear or other automotive OEM
- Must be a sales attitude, be a self-starter, motivated and be able to work independently; one-man show.
- Experience with creating and editing presentations, and great verbal and written communications is essential
- MS Office experience

- Has great relations with FCA in Italy and does a lot of business with them, however, FCA in Auburn Hills has not given the opportunity of any business and that needs to be developed.
- 1st interview with be a Skype and then 2nd interview the President and possibly the International Sales Manager (who is being hired by May/June 2016) will travel to Troy, MI to interview.
