Women's Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center which is part of Isabella Citizens for Health, Inc. and is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to work in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, home of Central Michigan University and Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. The Women's Health Center office is located within McLaren Central Michigan Hospital. Join our clinical team which offers team-based care with integrated behavioral health, Psychiatry, Psychology, and RN case management, which is located at Isabella Citizens for Health, the main site. Laboratory and Pharmacy Services are also located at the main site. Qualifications:
Job Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA) provides high-quality, patient-centered care within the OB/GYN clinical setting. The PA collaborates with physicians, nurses, and clinical support staff to deliver comprehensive women’s health services, including preventive care, obstetric management, gynecologic evaluation, and patient education. This role requires sound clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standard of care. Physician Assistant also carries out all additional duties which fall within the scope of professional licensure and within the individual’s scope of training and/or experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides medical services to patients on a regularly scheduled basis, under the supervision of a physician who is cognizant of and responsible for the actions of the physician assistant.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests.
- Perform routine OB/GYN procedures as permitted by licensure and clinic protocols (e.g., Pap smears, breast exams, IUD insertions/removals, endometrial biopsies).
- Act as first assistant in surgery for uncomplicated obstetric and gynecologic procedures, such as, but not limited to cesarean section, vaginal, cervical, or perineal laceration repair, dilation and curettage, laparoscopy, and hysterectomy.
- Provide prenatal and postpartum care, collaborate on pregnancy management, and identify patients requiring physician involvement.
- Manage common gynecologic conditions such as menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, menopause symptoms, infections, and contraceptive needs.
- Interpret laboratory and imaging results and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Educate patients on family planning, contraception, prenatal care, menopause management, and preventive health.
- Ensures the physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of the patient are met.
- Take medical histories and examines patients who present with illness, or injury or for, wellness examination, occupational examination or other medical needs.
- Educates and encourages patients to become an active participant in their own health care related behavior and provides patient education materials of use in encouraging wellness.
- Responds to and evaluates patient concerns and critical test results while on call.
- Orders and implements appropriate medical interventions.
- Functions as a member of the patient-oriented care team in conjunction with physician(s) and other support staff to provide prompt and proper care.
- Ensures confidentiality and protects the patient’s right to privacy.
- Maintains a courteous and professional personal demeanor.
- Observes proper safety precautions for the well-being of patients, visitors, and staff of the facility in which employed.
- Refers patients for additional services appropriately.
- Participate in all quality assurance activities including development of standards of care, protocols, quality assurance monitors and other functions as necessary to ensure continuous quality improvement in all aspects of patient care.
- Communicates appropriately with other health care professionals to foster harmonious interdisciplinary relationships.
- Participates actively in efforts to enhance the image of the Clinic in all aspects of patient and community relations.
- Performs administrative duties as required.
- Responds appropriately to emergent situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant training program
- Licensure as a Physician Assistant in Michigan
- Board certified
- Active and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license
- BLS certification
Preferred
- Prior OB/GYN or Women's health experience strongly preferred but not required
- NRP certification
