General Summary: This position reports to the Deputy Probate Court Administrator and Court Administrator. This position serves as the primary contact for intake, screening, and service connection for Bay County Juvenile Court youth and families. The Assessment Coordinator will screen at-risk juveniles and link them and their families with community-based services. This individual will also provide educational support to delinquent youth under the jurisdiction of the court.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth and families from a variety of social, economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
• Previous case management experience preferred.
• Experience in conducting interviews and assessments with youth and parents.
• Experience with tutoring or educational support for youth ages 10-18 years old.
Essential Functions:
• Conducts assessments to evaluate risk factors, protective factors, traumatic experiences, and mental health needs.
• Receives referrals for Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument (MAYSI) screenings and complete them with youth and/or families.
• Receives referrals for Youth Level of Service (YLS) screenings and complete them with youth and/or families.
• Receives referrals for detention screenings Michigan Juvenile Justice Assessment System (MJJAS) and complete them with youth and/or families.
• Creates reports that include the assessment results, case management goals, service referrals, and a 6-week follow-up plan.
• Attends court hearings and provides advocacy in court for youth and their families.
• Advocates for clients to reduce recidivism contact with juvenile justice system.
• Maintains a working knowledge of the juvenile justice field. Attends training in areas such as youth development, evidence-based practices, and juvenile justice.
• Coordinate and provide follow up with community partners including but not limited to truancy officers, juvenile probation officers, court program directors and school officials.
• Provides educational support for expelled or suspended youth, i.e. tutoring and credit recovery.
• Must be available for meetings and events which may occur outside of standard office hours.
• Work performed in a variety of settings, including office, school, court.
• Provides backup to the Day Treatment Program.
• Consistent and punctual attendance is considered an essential function of this job.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
