Job Description:
Responsible for moving lifts of doors from the lay-up table to the cold presses and pressing with the correct pressure for the correct time period.
Outline of Process:
Pressmen are responsible for watching the builders’ table for completed lifts. Once lifts are complete the pressman must pull the lift into place on the press cart line and push the lift to the correct cold press. The pressman needs to read the batch ticket to confirm which press the load goes to and the pressure to be used. The pressman then pushes the lift into the press, making sure the load is straight and there are no stile rail gaps. He may need to fix the gaps using a hammer, bowed stiles using a puller of some kind and straighten the load using a rubber mallet. Once the lift is in the press he applies the correct pressure according to the press chart. Paperwork includes noting the in/out times and pressure on the batch ticket, signature, shift and line and the load itself. The pressman should make visual observations that the glue squeeze-out meets quality standards.
Once the press time has been met, the pressman relieves the pressure and pushes the load to the accumulation line for the trim saw. Pressmen are responsible for keeping the press area neat, clean and orderly. Quality issues should be brought to the attention of the group manager
