POSITION: Writing/Testing Center Support Specialist
LOCATION: Alma High School
Job Summary:
The Writing/Testing Center Support Specialist provides administrative, technical, and instructional support to students in an educational realm. The ideal candidate will implement writing assistance programs and administer various standardized and course-related tests to ensure student success and an inclusive learning environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have ability to obtain a State of Michigan substitute teaching permit.
- Solid foundation in English/Writing.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Knowledge of academic support strategies and the ability to interpret and apply complex testing policies and procedures accurately.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms and tools preferred.
Testing Center Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise the administration of make-up tests, retakes, and assessments requiring extended time or accommodations.
- Ensure test security and confidentiality according to district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Maintain scheduling systems and communication with teachers to organize testing sessions efficiently.
- Support standardized testing (e.g., PSAT, SAT, (VI-STEP, NWEA, AP exams) as needed.
- Provide an orderly, distraction-free testing environment.
Writing Center Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small-group writing assistance to students across disciplines.
- Collaborate with English and content-area teachers to align writing support with classroom expectations and rubrics.
- Support students in all stages of the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Encourage a culture of writing and academic confidence through workshops, peer tutoring, or drop-in sessions.
General Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding testing and writing supports.
- Maintain accurate attendance and usage records for both centers.
- Support academic intervention or credit recovery efforts when appropriate.
- Assist in promoting academic integrity and accountability.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
COMPENSATION:
$21/hour, 35 hours per week 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday, all student attendance days
