General Definition of Work
Performs difficult technical work providing a wide range of nursing services and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned personnel.
Essential Functions

Assesses client needs by reviewing lab results, evaluating client health, and implementing a plan of care. Performs pelvic exams, takes specimen collection, administers vaccines and other injections, dispenses medications, and checks vital signs. Prepares and files reports, answers phones and maintains files.

Performs TB, HIV, STI, pregnancy, and other related testing and provides results, counseling, education, referral services, and follow-up care to clients and families, as needed. Accepts accountability for services provided to clients.

Documents services provided and updates client charts with necessary lab results, E-scribe information, etc. Provides customer services in person, virtually, and over the phone. Assists clients in completing forms and documents. May order and monitor use of clinical supplies.

Collects and disseminates information on nursing best practices and quality of care. Performs research on communicable diseases, current immunization information, client lab results and provides education and other information as needed to clients.

Assists in orienting new staff, students and medical residents. Attends assignment-related trainings. Tracks, reports, enters and may analyze program/statistical data. On call emergencies.

Promotes health department programs by providing information and education to the community in meetings, at local health fairs, to area colleges and universities, and in person.

Assignment Specific: Completes home and/or community visits for clients and other residents, assesses needs, and provides care as needed.

Biologic Immunization Program: Ensures all vaccines are inventoried, stored, and administered properly. Reviews vaccine orders. Oversees logs tracking temperature controls and use for all vaccines allocated to the county.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Associate’s degree in nursing.
Experience:
Moderate (1+ years) experience in community or public health nursing.
Special Requirements:

Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan upon hire.

Valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan upon hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.

Emergency Preparedness Training within 6 months of hire.

Obtain HIV certification within 6 months of hire (specific to assignment).
