Functioning as a technical expert in machine controls and automation, a Sr. Controls Technician at Roskam Foods plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex automated equipment. Additional responsibilities may include continuous improvement activities on existing equipment, mentoring of manufacturing support personnel, and participation in the design and startup of new equipment. As a member of the engineering department and reporting to the controls engineering manager, the successful candidate will be called upon to work on cross-functional teams including maintenance, sanitation, operations and facilities.

Demonstrated technical knowledge and hands-on skills across a wide range of technical equipment, including PLC’s, VFD’s, servos, and HMI’s.

Experience with industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS-I, and others).

Understanding of safety circuits

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills demonstrated through the use of data and root cause analysis techniques, including competence in explaining to others.

Ability to interpret electrical drawings for troubleshooting, design reviews, and system modifications.

Ability to correctly use required tools (multi-meter, computer, wire striper, screwdriver, crimper, etc.)

Direct experience with AutoCAD or other CAD programs for modifying and printing electric schematics.
