Job Description:
Job Summary:
To operate, maintain, repair, and install water distribution piping, plumbing fixtures, fire sprinklers, sanitary and irrigation systems, steam and condensate systems, and swimming pool components following recognized procedures and techniques of the plumbing trade, while providing general maintenance services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintain, repair, and install water and sewer distribution systems, including distribution and branch feeders, swimming pool systems, plumbing fixtures, control devices, and pumps.

Maintain, repair, and install irrigation, fire sprinkler, and sanitary systems.

Analyze malfunctions of plumbing systems using proper tools, visuals, and drawings.
-
Perform preventative maintenance, including alarm tests and related documentation.

Order required parts and materials.
-
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.

Replace or install piping, valves, controls, pumps, and motors.
-
Assist with general maintenance of university grounds, buildings, walkways, and equipment.
Related Duties:

Assist other staff as assigned.

Conduct rounds inspections and respond to emergency calls.

Estimate time and material costs.
-
Complete daily logs.
-
Repair or build items such as cabinets, benches, and planters.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from the Associate Director of Campus Facilities and/or designees.
Supervision Exercised:
May supervise assigned student employees.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
-
State of Michigan Journeyman Plumber’s License required.

State of Michigan Backflow Prevention Testing Certification required.
-
Must obtain swimming pool operator certification.
-
Master Plumber license preferred.
-
Four years of job-related experience as a licensed plumber.

Valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry tools, materials, and systems.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals.

Strong work performance, attendance, and workmanship.

Excellent customer service orientation.

Ability to communicate effectively and maintain productive working relationships.

Ability to work independently or in a team and adapt to emergency scheduling.

Ability to maintain records using PDAs or other digital tools.

Working Conditions:
