Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented, entry level, Development Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to grow in the field of mechanical and product design engineering. Based in Alpena, MI (preferred) or remote, this position involves supporting the development team in designing and engineering innovative solutions for our clients in the material handling industry. Occasional travel may be required, and Michigan applicants would be preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in product development from ideation to testing, validation, and documentation.
- Design new solutions using SolidWorks, ensuring manufacturability and standardization.
- Create and manage high-quality 3D models and engineering drawings.
- Perform calculations to assess product viability.
- Support job processing and design of both standard and custom equipment.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, manufacturing, and vendors.
- Collaborate with marketing to produce accurate documentation and feasibility studies.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Solve engineering problems and write technical reports and manuals.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
- Contribute to simulations, process improvements, and training initiatives.
- Support product automation, cost estimation, and project scheduling.
- Provide technical expertise from concept through product launch.
- Travel to trade shows and customer sites as needed.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software

Required Knowledge
- Fundamentals of mechanical and product design
- Design for manufacturing principles
- Engineering documentation and standards (e.g., IFMC standards)

- Translate conceptual ideas into practical engineering designs
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations
- Create standardized components and documentation
- Apply engineering principles to real-world manufacturing challenges
