Who are we looking for? At GHD we are looking for a new Digital Intern to join the Location Intelligence team at our Detroit, MI office. We are seeking a motivated Geospatial Tools Intern to join our Data, Insights, and Solutions team. The intern will assist in the development and implementation of digital tools to support various environmental projects, including remediation efforts, site investigations, and data analysis. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: * Database Specifications: Provide information and comments on suitability during the approval process for database specifications to ensure all agreed standards and protocols are followed and data integrity is preserved. * GIS Tools: Collaborate to design, develop, and test GIS tools and workflows. Assist in the integration of GIS tools into existing environmental remediation and investigation workflows. * Documentation and Backup: Draft and maintain basic technical and/or user documentation to a high standard, and create backup files to ensure instant recovery if problems occur. * Culture of Innovation: Support a culture of innovation by contributing to solutions that boost creativity, innovation, and collaboration; help in setting up and monitoring idea generation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons. * Business Case: Contribute information and analysis to support the development and review of business cases. Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions for innovative geospatial solutions. * Documentation: Document project progress and prepare reports on geospatial tool performance and findings. Stay updated with the latest advancements in geospatial technology and software. * Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be": Support and contribute to the documentation of "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required. * Feasibility Studies: Contribute to and support feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective, and document findings. * Enterprise Business Analysis: Identify opportunities for process or procedural improvement, and design improved solution alternatives. * Application Software Development: Contribute to development of existing and new applications by carrying out straightforward, well-defined basic programming, design, and coding activities under close supervision. * Data Collection and Analysis: Analyze environmental data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can inform project decisions. Support the development of geospatial tools to assess environmental risks and outcomes. * Requirements Management: Identify, elicit, and document user/project requirements, using appropriate modeling technique, if required. Analyze requirements and validate with original users, eliminating confusion. Outline verification criteria to ensure requirements are met. Maintain documentation and traceability throughout project. What you will bring to the Team Education * Currently enrolled in in Geography, Data Science, Environmental Science, or equivalent Bachelor's or Master's degree program Experience * General Experience: No experience required. * Strong understanding of GIS software, geospatial data management, and data analysis techniques. * Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, or JavaScript. * Experience with ArcGIS Pro, Desktop, or QGIS.
