A 150 year-old machine tools company located in the Flint area in seeking a senior level Controls Engineer. The company produces manufacturing systems and CNC machine tools for automotive and other manufacturing applications. A good candidate would have at least ten years of experience in electronic controls design for machine tools. The Controls Engineer will help design the controls for machining systems.

As the company sees an uptick it business, it has found that it needs a controls engineer to help meet production demands. An ideal candidate would have a demonstrated history and adeptness with CNC and PLC machine systems. Previous machine tool experience is and systems design is a hard requirement, and in-depth work with CNC machines is a strong plus.
Senior Controls Engineer Job Opening
- Review all customer orders and the specifications of those orders.
- Design controls and alter control packages as customer specifications require.
- Follow the company’s standard machine design but make customized changes for each individual customer order.
- Provide quotes to customers on different customization options.
- Modify the controls package as necessary throughout the build process.
- Start-up and de-bugging of CNC machines.
- Rebuild and update machines for customers.
- Lead and execute projects with a team of engineers and technicians.
- Troubleshoot controls designs for clients on site.
- Meet with clients to understand their specific needs and applications.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- At least five years of controls design experience in machine tools, more experience preferred.
- Experience designing controls for machine tools for automotive applications is preferred.
- A thorough understanding of PLC/Ladder Logic controls as well as a familiarity with NFPA/NEC codes.
- CNC G & M code and controls experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Siemens and/or Fanuc machines is preferred.
- Knowledge of metal-removal machine tools and experience building them.
- Mastery of design for electrical control systems, power electronics, and electromechanical hardware.
- A firm grasp of advanced computer skills including drafting software in addition to Microsoft office and other programs.
- Several years experience with AutoCAD drafting, specifically for controls design.
- Proven ability to start and complete projects with little supervision.
- A strong work ethic and self-starter attitude.
- Ability to manage a number of tasks and prioritize certain tasks ahead of others.
- The ability to travel to clients to make quotes and sometimes service machines.
