Key Responsibilities:
? Plan, organize, and manage all aspects of the environmental health (EH) division, including personnel, budgeting,
and administration duties using computer software products such as Microsoft Office, Hedgerow, Outlook, and
similar products.
? Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff performance, ensuring training and professional development needs are met.
? Develop and implement policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance with EH code, laws, rules, and
regulations.
? Interpret and enforce EH code, laws, rules, and regulations with the Administrative Health Officer. Monitor
compliance and take enforcement actions, including facility closures, when necessary.
? Establish program priorities and oversee inspections of public and private facilities for health standard
compliance.
? Present EH information to the Board of Health Commissioners monthly. Be the primary subject matter expert to
community stakeholders, auditors, local and state agencies, and departmental employees.
? Stay current with legislative and regulatory developments.
? Provide considerable input in the development and implementation of the Department’s strategic plan, strategic
goals, and objectives, ensuring proper use of budgetary and purchasing procedures.
? Assess operations and resources, recommend improvements, and implement cost-saving measures.
? Respond to public health emergencies, emergency exercises, and emergency response training activities.
? Always deliver services in a respectful and professional manner, and demonstrates cultural competency.
Requirements:
? Registered as EH Specialist through the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
? Bachelor’s degree in EH, Biology, Chemistry, Food Service, or related field and experience which provides the
necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
? Sufficient mobility to work both in office and on-site (field) settings.
? Excellent communication & organizational skills.
? Ability to provide services in a culturally competent and non-judgmental manner.
? Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation.
? Prefer supervisory experience of at least two years.
Salary: $69,334 Starting annual salary plus full management benefit package, depending on experience. Wage
increases upon successful probationary period.
