JOB TITLE: PART-TIME CUSTODIAN
RATE OF PAY: $14.51 per hour, progressing to
$17.02 per hour after one year (TS04)

*Generally, 20 or more hours per week, subject to change. The hours are variable, but generally 4 hours per day, 5 days per week. This position pays limited benefits as provided for within the USW Part-time labor agreement, although union membership is voluntary.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Director and direct supervision of Juvenile Home management, performs a variety of tasks to assist in the operation of the Bay County Juvenile Home. May be assigned to work as custodian in any other buildings or on any other grounds. Performs custodial duties at the juvenile home. Fills in for cook/driver during absences. Will be required to drive a county vehicle to make deliveries and run errands.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains a neat and orderly supply room.
- Dust mops and wet mops floors and operates scrubber to clean floors.
- May strip floors of old wax, apply fresh wax and operate power buffer.
- Dusts and sanitizes fountains, restrooms and replenishes supplies and dispensers.
- May shovel snow and salt walkways.
- Periodically performs thorough cleaning of resident sleeping rooms.
- Checks lights and secures windows and building entrances after cleaning or on an as needed basis. 8. Follows all rules and instructions regarding security in all buildings worked with special security at
the juvenile home.
- Reports irregular activities and advises supervisor of conditions requiring maintenance or repair.
- Pick up meals and/or other items from Bay County Sheriff’s Office at designated times, or as instructed – typically two times a week and more often as necessary.
- Maintain transported meals in accordance to Health Department codes.
- Set up meals at designated mealtimes for juvenile home staff to serve to residents.
- Empty and rinse food trays and cups for return to Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
- Transport mail to and from the Bay County Building daily
- May purchase food supplies as directed.
- Cleans and maintains the kitchen and transport vehicle
- Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
- All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: County prefers an individual who has experience in cleaning large buildings or office complexes. Must be able to lift and move up to 100 pounds, climb ladders, shovel, and perform vigorous cleaning duties requiring stamina and kneeling, bending, and standing for long periods (with or without reasonable accommodation). Individual must be able to work with minimal supervision. Valid Michigan driver’s license is required. Applicants may be required to take written and/or other examinations.
