Job Summary

The Senior Module Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of core battery management systems, architecture, and components. This role defines, documents, and designs the overall mechanical architecture, with accountability for key mechanical systems and components as well as validation activities. The position works in close collaboration with prototype and production engineering teams, suppliers, and validation/testing teams to ensure successful development and integration of battery system components. 

Responsibilities

• Develop and document detailed product requirements in alignment with regulatory standards, customer needs, and internal specifications. 
• Responsible for the design and development of mechanical systems and components that house, structurally support, thermally manage, and electrically connect various types of Li-Ion batteries. 
• Define, size, select, and design mechanical, electrical, and thermal components for battery modules and packs, including battery structures, enclosures, injection-molded plastics, current collectors, fuses, cooling plates, and mechanical joining methods. 
• Evaluate supplier information, specifications, and validation data to select appropriate suppliers and ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Evaluate prospective suppliers and provide key input to the supplier selection process.
• Develop and maintain module sub-system Design Verification Plan and Reports (DVP&Rs), ensuring integration with and support of overall American Battery Solutions (ABS) system DVP&Rs. 
• Lead and manage Product and Process design reviews from initiation through completion. 
• Support prototype system builds by coordinating and ensuring timely availability of all required parts.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to battery systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars and conferences, reviewing industry publications, and building professional networks. 
• Complete assigned projects on schedule to support team growth and overall objectives. 
• Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
• Adhere to federal and state regulations.
• Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. 
• Predictable and reliable attendance.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or an equivalent degree.
• Minimum of six (6) years of experience in high voltage (>350V) battery components design including current collectors, busbars, ICB trays, and FPCs.
• Proficient in developing and modifying Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEAs), Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFMs), and DVP&Rs
• Adept in data processing and statistical analysis.
• Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.
• Experienced with the handling of high voltage lithium-ion battery systems.
• Educated on common automotive & industry standards.
• Familiar with the product design process.
• Self-motivated problem solver; pays attention to the details.
• Abides by safety standards and protocols.

• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and on uneven terrain. 
• Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
• May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs.
