Opportunity:
We’re seeking a Sheet Metal Inspection Technician for our client in Roseville, MI. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for inspecting formed and fabricated sheet metal components using advanced tools like the Keyence VL-700 3D scanner and applying GD&T principles to ensure every part meets exact specifications.
*This is a 1st shift contract role with the opportunity for direct hire after 6 months.
What You’ll Do:
- Inspect sheet metal parts and assemblies to ensure they meet engineering drawings and specifications
- Conduct buy-off inspections for both internal release and customer acceptance
- Operate and maintain blue light scanning equipment (Keyence VL-700 or similar)
- Analyze 3D scanned data and compare against CAD models using inspection software
- Apply GD&T to evaluate dimensions and tolerances
- Document inspection results and generate detailed reports
- Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues
- Maintain inspection tools and assist with calibration and equipment upkeep
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and quality goals in the sheet metal department
Required:
- 3+ years of inspection experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in GD&T and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings
- Experience using Keyence VL-700 or similar blue light 3D scanning equipment
- Skilled in inspecting bent, formed, and welded sheet metal components
- Familiarity with standard measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with Keyence or similar dimensional analysis software
- Working knowledge of CAD formats (STEP, IGES)
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems
