Marquette Board of Light and Power seeks an experienced Director of Distribution to join their team in Marquette, MI. As a Director of Distribution, you will oversee all strategic, tactical, and operational functions of the Distribution Department, including the planning, construction, maintenance, and reliability of the electric transmission and distribution system. You will also manage safety programs, fleet operations, reporting, mutual aid coordination, and supervise department managers while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Manage all aspects of power transmission and distribution to ensure safe, reliable electric service, including planning improvements, coordinating with other utilities, and supporting mutual aid.
- Provide leadership and oversight for transmission and distribution systems, maintenance, repairs, GIS/CAD mapping, and related infrastructure.
- Direct strategic, tactical, and operational planning for distribution facilities, equipment, construction, and vendor/contractor coordination.
- Collaborate with other departments and promote teamwork to develop specifications, purchase supplies, and manage the department’s fleet.
- Lead power restoration efforts during outages/storms, ensuring safety compliance, efficient recovery, and cross-departmental coordination.
- Oversee distribution operations to identify deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and optimize system performance through GIS data.
- Manage the department’s safety program, ensuring compliance with all regulations, reducing liability, and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Prepare and submit required operational, feasibility, and reliability reports.
- Develop and manage the department’s budget, reviews expenditures, and conduct long-range planning for capital and operational needs.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred. Equivalent training and experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
- Experience in utility operations including finance, planning, Generation and AMI and metering is a plus.
- 15+ years of experience in Distribution including planning, direction, and control of electric transmission and distribution systems required.
- Experience in developing and implementing projects and/or operating and capital budgets preferred.
- Knowledge of GIS and CAD systems.
- Knowledge of safety standards and requirements pertaining to Distribution Department operations with supervision experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing to participate on a variety of boards in the community, state, or nationally.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to cope with problems of a technical and complex nature.
