Position Title: STEM Explorer Assistant (On Site - University Center, MI)

Position Summary Information

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

Engage with students and community members (elementary-age to adult) during school visits and public events by guiding them through hands-on STEM activities and educational modules.

Assist with setup and cleanup for outreach events and school visits.

Learn and clearly communicate foundational science and engineering concepts related to STEM Explorer activities.

Restock the STEM Explorer vehicle and rotate onboard learning modules as needed.

Maintain a clean, organized workspace daily.

Collaborate with the STEM Explorer Coordinator to develop, refine, and troubleshoot STEM modules and materials.

Provide general program support, which may include administrative tasks.

Learn to operate and support project-related technology and equipment, including Microsoft Office, PCs, iPads, gaming systems, 3D printers, and 3D modeling software with guidance from the coordinator.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including with diverse groups of students, educators, and colleagues.

Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Strong problem-solving skills and a creative, adaptable approach to challenges.

Willingness and capacity to learn and understand STEM concepts relevant to each module.

Effective verbal communication and active listening skills.
-
Proficient in or willing to learn Delta College’s Minimum Technology Skills, including Microsoft Office and basic digital tools.

Physically able to lift and transport materials up to 50 lbs.

Flexible availability, primarily for weekday K–12 school visits and occasional evening or weekend outreach events.

Reliable transportation and ability to travel independently to regional school sites.

Eagerness to learn new skills and technologies on the job.
Additional Experiences Considered
-
Completion of 6+ college credits in STEM-related coursework.
-
Experience using Microsoft Office.
-
Coursework or hands-on experience in computer programming.
-
Prior experience working with middle or high school students.
-
Familiarity with basic hand tools and/or electronic equipment for repairing/building educational modules.

Participation in STEM-related clubs or programs (e.g., robotics or coding clubs).
-
Experience operating or troubleshooting 3D printers or other digital fabrication tools.
