
Department of Public Works Temporary Maintenance Trainee
The Human Resource Department is now accepting applications for the position of Department of Public Works Maintenance Trainee with the Department of Public Works. Responsibilities include performing general maintenance, repair and physical labor duties on a variety of Township equipment, property and facilities using a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. This is a short-term position ending on November 16, 2025.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Experience Required: Two (2) years related experience (preferred)
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED
Certification/Licensing: Valid Driver's License with the ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License with Group A designation, tank endorsement and medical certificate within six months of being offered a full-time position, if applicable.

Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, crawl, climb, reach, and maneuver where physical mobility is required to complete the duties of the job, may enter confined spaces.
Primary Work Location: Outdoors
Salary: $56,388 - $64,847. Applications must be uploaded with proof of education, copy of a valid Driver's License, and experience.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the DPW Supervisor, performs general maintenance, repair and physical labor duties within the water distribution and wastewater systems using a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. For training purposes, will perform the duties of a Maintenance Person I.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to perform any or all of the following essential duties:
- Under the supervision of a senior employee, assists in the repair of malfunctions in the water distribution and wastewater system, travelling throughout the Township inspecting water meters, service lines, mains, and valves to determine problems.
- Assists in the installation and repair of water meters using hand tools and special gauges.
- Turns water services and mains on and off as necessary.
- Participates in the repair and maintenance of new and existing water mains, manholes, fire hydrants, sewer lines, etc., inspecting taps and running new service lines when necessary.
- Performs job site restorations at work projects, filling in holes, recovering or patching roadways along with landscaping where necessary.
- Operates a variety of tools and equipment such as air compressor, metal locator, leak detector and various hand tools required to perform assigned tasks.
- Record status of work completed and material use for maintenance or repair projects.
- May Operate a truck or backhoe in the removal or hauling of materials, snow plowing, digging or backfilling trenches for concrete or metal pipe, or loading trucks.
