Controls Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
- Providing technical support and coverage for equipment related to electrical, controls, and PLC subsystems.
- Troubleshooting complex manual, semi-automated, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Executing small to medium projects including machine automation, PLC control upgrades, equipment capacity increases, part transfers, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Supporting equipment purchases and ensuring compliance with electrical and controls standards.
- Partnering with vendors on tooling improvements and new application development.
- Mentoring process specialists, engineers, and technicians to expand knowledge of controls, automation, and machine design.
- Collaborating with maintenance, engineering, and toolroom teams to resolve equipment downtime issues, process non-conformances, and line stoppages.
- Programming PLC-controlled equipment and systems including metal fabrication, assembly, finishing, and automation systems.
- Assisting in validation activities such as equipment qualifications, process validations, and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred.
- Bringing 6+ years of experience in manufacturing controls, software, programming, or electrical engineering.
- Demonstrating experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, debugging, and maintenance.
- Applying knowledge of industrial automation applications/software.
- Interpreting and creating mechanical, electrical, and P&ID documentation.
- Utilizing Rockwell Automation software (highly preferred).
- Applying knowledge of Inductive Automation Ignition, Siemens Step 7-Micro/WIN, Rockwell Connected Components Workbench.
- Working with SQL Server Management Studio, Python, Qt Designer.
- Programming FANUC robots (WeldPRO, PaintPRO).
- Designing industrial hardwiring (safety circuits, power circuits).
- Using vision and automation tools such as Cognex, Keyence, Cleco, Automation Direct software.
- Configuring computer networks (Wireshark, Cisco switches).
