Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program

Are you ready to start a career in healthcare? Join University of Michigan Health–Sparrow’s Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program, a registered apprenticeship in partnership with Lansing Community College and the U.S. Department of Labor. This unique program allows you to earn while you learn and gain the skills needed to launch a rewarding career in patient care.

As an MA Apprentice, you will:

• Work side-by-side with experienced healthcare professionals in clinic settings.
• Learn essential skills such as taking vitals, assisting with procedures, documenting patient information, and providing excellent patient-centered support.
• Receive classroom instruction at Lansing Community College combined with on-the-job training, preparing you for certification as a Medical Assistant.
• Build a foundation for long-term growth in the healthcare field.

What we’re looking for:

• A high school diploma or GED.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliability, compassion, and a desire to learn.
• No prior medical assistant experience required — we’ll train you!

This paid, registered apprenticeship combines employment and education, offering a pathway into a high-demand healthcare career. Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for Medical Assistant positions within UM Health–Sparrow.
