This position exists within the Powertrain Bearings & Ignition Group and is based in the Plymouth Technical Center, Plymouth, Michigan, reporting to the Vice President and General Manager, Global Ignition. Responsible for overall management of the Ignition Group's quality functions and performance. The position administers the quality programswithin the Ignition group, including overall direction, as well as support of the Ignition sites' quality programs. The position supports, guides and directs the quality managers and programs at all Ignition sites including problem solving and on-site support, design and implementation; develops programs to satisfy existing and developing requirements of TS-16949 and conducts training associated with these programs;ensures work instructions and procedures are developed and written in association with these programs, and ensures that proper certification and paperwork required by these programs are in order.Accountable for Quality development and deployment of the Global Ignition Group Leadership: a demonstrated ability to leadpeople and achieve results through others.Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year period. Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.Coordinate customer concerns resolution.Attend customer meetings to specifically define the concern and the problem. Relate the issue to the producing plant.Lead problem solving teams.Assist in analyzing data (SPC).Train plant personnel on using facts and data to find root cause of problem.Select the best solution and maintain the focus until full implementation.Assess solution effectiveness and report resolutions to customers.Assist in integration of acquisitions into Federal-Mogul.Chair quality manager meetings. Communicate regularly with the Applications Engineering department regarding best practices or needs for improvement identified in the A/E plant interface or the A/E customer interface. Information will be used to direct improvement efforts.Participate in the development of the APQP process.Teach multi-discipline teams on the APQP techniques.Demonstrate the concept by coaching an APQP team on the process.Provide training to specific areas such as: FMEA's, SPC, Control Plans, Statistics, DOE, etc. The level of this training is to address what needs to be done to meet these specific requirements. It is also designed to provide hands-on assistance in how to meet the requirements.The Director of Quality will assist the group plants in the development of skilled internal and supplier auditors. Training may be recommended or provided. Inter-plant activities will be encouraged.Responsible for overseeing the administration of TS-16949, and other quality programs at Ignition locations. Oversee development of work instructions and procedures to address existing and developing requirements of TS-16949. Achieve standardization of processes within product subgroup. Explore quality process standardization and develop action plans to achieve it. Monitor the implementation until completion and report to the Operation VPs.Assist and coach in document changes (updating, copying, and distributing), as well as conducting training required to implement changes to the existing system. Responsible for maintaining CAR database, including issuance of CAR's as appropriate, tracking CAR progress, and notifying supervisor of deficient response or timeliness issues. Prepares organization for internal and external audits.Conducts Management Review of the Quality System and other systems as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent Minimum of eight (8) years experience in quality within a manufacturing environment; Automotive OE experience required.Skill in problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional levels.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills.Ability to travel, including international locations.
