Job Summary:
The Senior Engineering Consultant will lead advanced engineering and consulting efforts across a wide spectrum of automotive subsystems, including chassis, powertrain, body, electrical, and thermal domains. This senior-level role supports OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers by delivering strategic design guidance, cost analysis, and system-level integration expertise grounded in deep industry knowledge and competitive benchmarking insights. The role will leverage a broad understanding of vehicle architectures and market trends to inform design decisions and drive innovation.
This role demands a high level of autonomy and technical leadership, with responsibility for managing complex deliverables and facilitating cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Engineering Consultant will apply unique automotive insights and comparative benchmarking data to evaluate design feasibility, packaging constraints, and manufacturing implications. Acting as a technical liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders, the Senior Engineering Consultant will help shape product direction, improve cost efficiency, and elevate engineering quality across multiple vehicle programs.
In this role, you will:
- Provide expert consulting across vehicle systems (chassis, powertrain, body, electrical, thermal) to guide OEM and Tier 1 design strategies.
- Deliver actionable insights through competitive benchmarking, cost modeling, and feasibility analysis.
- Advise clients on system-level integration, packaging constraints, and manufacturing trade-offs.
- Translate market trends and technical data into strategic recommendations that shape product direction.
- Lead cross-functional engagements, acting as a technical liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Manage high-impact consulting deliverables with autonomy, ensuring alignment with client goals and engineering best practices.
- Champion innovation and quality improvement across multiple vehicle programs through deep industry expertise.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in automotive engineering, management, consulting or directly related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in managing customer relationships directly.
- Strong understanding of vehicle architecture and subsystem interactions, with the ability to assess design feasibility and integration challenges.
- Deep knowledge of automotive development processes, from concept through production, including design validation, packaging, and manufacturing constraints.
- Proven ability to deliver cost-aware recommendations, leveraging benchmarking and trade-off analysis to optimize design and reduce program expenses.
- Skilled in translating technical insights into strategic guidance, effectively communicating with engineering teams and executive stakeholders to influence product direction.
- Financial acumen, with the ability to interpret cost models, assess ROI, and support business case development for engineering decisions.
Successful candidates may also have:
- Experience working across global cross-functional teams, including purchasing, manufacturing, and suppliers, to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Some level of proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) for evaluating packaging feasibility, design concepts, and virtual validation.
- Familiarity with DFMEA, DVPR, and APQP methodologies to ensure robust design and process quality throughout the product lifecycle.
