We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Designer/Engineer to join our growing team in Alpena, MI. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle—from concept development and prototyping to documentation and production support. You’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers, team leaders, and internal stakeholders to design and deliver innovative systems that meet customer needs and exceed expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings, 3D models, and customer approval documentation using CAD tools.
- Develop instructional, testing, and inspection documentation for internal and customer use.
- Generate and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) using business management software.
- Review internal notifications and gather job-related data for quoting and planning.
- Design, engineer, and prototype new products and systems based on customer requirements.
- Support senior engineers in developing standard product offerings and production methods.
- Participate in FMEA processes and quality control inspections.
- Maintain and organize design files, revisions, and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with internal vendors and cross-functional teams.
- Attend project meetings and provide updates on progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing tasks with team leaders.
- Occasional travel to manufacturing or customer sites will be required.
Skills Needed
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge Required
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals (math, physics, mechanics).
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Awareness of budgeting and marketing impacts on product development.
- Understanding of inventory systems and business management tools.
- Knowledge of FMEA and quality control processes.
Ability to Implement
- Translate customer requirements into functional, manufacturable designs.
- Quickly adapt to new tools, processes, and changing project scopes.
- Work within budget and time constraints to deliver safe, efficient products.
- Participate in customer service calls and occasional travel as needed.
- Anticipate project tasks, durations, and critical paths to ensure timely delivery.
