Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) is a public transportation system for the urbanized Saginaw
area, which travels about 1.2 million miles per year. STARS provides basic transportation needs and is an important
partner in economic development. STARS also serves as an effective tool for mobility-challenged citizens. It is the
MISSION of STARS to provide safe, efficient, dependable, and affordable public transportation for ALL citizens of
Saginaw.
Position: Mechanic (Full-Time)

General Summary:
The Mechanic is responsible for satisfactory preventative maintenance services and minor repairs of Authority vehicles and
equipment with nominal supervision when necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Inspects Authority vehicles and equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems/defects.
2. Repairs and maintains Authority vehicles and equipment in accordance with the principles, methods, and procedures of
transit fleet maintenance operations.
3. Operates Authority vehicles and equipment to determine effectiveness of maintenance principles, methods, and
procedures.
4. Check all vehicle fluid levels, i.e., engine oil, water, transmission fluid, etc.
5. Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Senior Manager of Maintenance and Facilities.
Reports to: Senior Manager of Maintenance and Facilities
Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must have at least one ASE Certification or State of Michigan Certification.
Must possess a valid Class B CDL (Commercial Driver License) and must be willing
to obtain a P endorsement within 90 days.
