Perform cooking duties and lead food preparation for children within the pre-school setting to include planning, shopping, and preparing meals for children. Ensure adherence to child/adult care food program (CACFP) guidelines and all public health regulations regarding food storage, preparation and safety.
- Prepares meals and snacks in such a way that a minimum of nutrients are lost from foods, ensures foods taste good and look appealing, and that there are adequate amounts of food for the children;
- Plan and prepare a balanced rotating menu taking into account dietary and cultural requirements for the children that attend the preschool;
- Prepares food items according to standard menus, recipes and verbal instructions;
- Prepares menus and determines amount of food to meet USDA CACFP menu requirements;
- Inspects food being prepared to ensure proper quantity, quality and handling. Adjusts recipes to volume of demand;
- Inventories and maintains necessary supplies and goods for assigned meals;
- Delivers food from the kitchen to the classrooms that is ready to be served and is suitable for the children’s age and development;
- Assures proper storage and utilization of leftover ingredients/products and rotates stock;
- Maintains freezers and refrigerators at correct temperatures;
- Operates standard cooking equipment;
- Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment;
- Maintains a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry and storage area. Washes items used for food preparation;
- Cleans kitchen and equipment; assures that standards of sanitation and safety are met;
- Plans for and purchases all food and necessary supplies needed to provide food service;
- Keeps records for CACFP reporting;
- Maintain ServSafe certification and follows all requirements;
- Maintain up to date knowledge of licensing rules as they pertain to the food program;
- Work in cooperation with program staff and parents to meet all program requirements.
