The City of Houghton seeks an engaging and dynamic Community & Business Development Manager to join their team in Houghton, Michigan. This is a unique opportunity for someone to put their keen networking skills to use in a part-time position offering flexible hours.

WHAT WE OFFER.
- $35,000 – $40,000 annual starting pay.
- Set your own schedule of part-time hours (25-30 hours/week).
- Private office in the City office building.
- Guidance and support from the City Manager.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Serve as the City information resource, cheerleader, and match-maker to those looking to establish business or connections in the City.
- Work closely with existing and new Houghton business owners to build collaborative relationships.
- Serve as point person for media relations.
- Engage in public relations and coordinate networking activities that benefit Houghton.
- Imagine, create, organize, promote and participate in City-wide community events (Treat Street, Farmer’s Market, Bridgefest, future events, etc.).
- Ramp up the City’s online presence in social media forums by providing meaningful, timely posts that inform on happenings in town.
- Write press releases on happenings in Houghton (3-4 a month).
- Organize and run monthly business meetings.
- Assist with the application and management of local and state grants.
- Work independently as well as meet weekly with City Manager for updates on City events, concerns, resources and happenings.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- This position is open to candidates who live in Houghton, Michigan, or nearby communities.
- You have an exceptional personality that listens attentively, enjoys interacting with business and community members, prioritizes without bias, and gets stuff done.
- Ability to engage and bring focus to City events and happenings via media resources, online and social forums, and writing press releases.
- Experience in Business Development, Community Development, Business Management, Public Relations, Marketing or Communications helpful.
- Grant writing and grant administration experience a bonus.
- Flexibility to attend and participate in City events at various times of the day, night or weekend.
- You are adept at solving problems as they arise.
