Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate K-8 Specials Teacher to join our outstanding educational team. The position may be part-time or full-time, with a preference for candidates specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or Studio Textile Arts, though we welcome applicants with expertise in other special subject areas.
The ideal candidate will create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that promote student independence, creativity, problem-solving, and lifelong curiosity, while instilling joy and enthusiasm for learning beyond the core curriculum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification appropriate to the specialty area (or willingness to pursue).
- Experience teaching K–8 students in a specialty subject.
- Knowledge of Finnish education practices and a commitment to integrating them into instruction.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build a positive, student-centered classroom environment.
- Enthusiasm for inspiring creativity, innovation, and lifelong learning.
Duties:
Promoting Student Independence
- Empower students to take ownership of their learning through inquiry-based and project-based activities.
- Encourage independent thinking, creative risk-taking, and problem-solving.
Incorporating Hands-On Learning
- Design and implement engaging lessons that allow students to explore and create through hands-on projects.
- Provide opportunities for real-world applications of knowledge and skills.
Developing Lifelong Skills
- Teach subject-specific skills (STEM, textile arts, or other special areas) while fostering teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking.
- Provide opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and cross-disciplinary learning.
Instilling Joy in Learning
- Cultivate an engaging, supportive classroom where students feel inspired to participate and explore.
- Infuse lessons with creativity and enthusiasm to nurture a love for learning.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Use a variety of assessment methods to track student growth and achievement.
- Provide constructive feedback that supports student development.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff to integrate core topics into special classroom curriculum
- Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices in your specialty area.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Build connections with community organizations, local experts, and businesses to enhance student experiences.
- Involve families and community members in events, showcases, and projects.
