ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

- Ensures all mobile unit systems are operable. Responsible for daily maintenance of the mobile vision units, including but not limited to mobile unit pre and post trip safety inspections, washing and cleaning, fueling, dumping, plugging in, etc. Maintains all required logs. Prepares and stocks mobile unit for daily operation and for a safe departure. Keeps area surrounding outside of mobile unit, including steps, free of debris and snow to ensure safety of patients and visitors. Assembles and dissembles portable equipment when needed. Assesses possible problems with the mobile units and submits maintenance requests for needed repairs.
- Safely transports the mobile unit to and from assigned site. Abides by all state traffic and motor vehicle laws. Follows all organizational driving policies and procedures
- Prepares and organizes classroom lists and consent forms to ensure the patient list is prepared for efficient workflow when arriving to the school.
- Establishes a rapport with patients, facility administrators, and team members. Maintains professionalism and stays in contact with school/facility administrators while at the school/facility. Accompany students/patients to and from the mobile unit. Ensures students feel welcomed and are well-behaved and under control while inside the mobile unit.
- Responsible for keeping a steady and orderly flow of patients. Familiarizes self with map of school, specials class list, lunch schedules, and other events (fire drills, field trips, etc.) that may disrupt the daily workflow. Obtains additional completed vision consent forms. Tracks completed procedures and accurately communicates remaining procedure totals to coordinator. Provides professional, detailed verbal, written, and typed communication to patients, guardians, and coworkers. Answers and makes telephone calls; assists caller by asking and answering diverse questions, including account inquiries.
- Ensures accuracy and efficiency when processing consent forms. Enters/updates patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record. Records and attaches required information to consent forms. Schedules appointments. Scans all required documents into appropriate patient record. Responsible for acquiring patient financial information and collecting payment. Accurately performs income determination and completes applicable forms.
- Attends and participates in community events to promote the Mobile Vision Program. Actively involves self in team huddles providing detailed communication.
- Actively engages with migrant workers and their families to ensure access to vision care services. Supports the team in delivering mobile vision services to migrant populations, ensuring their needs are met with care and efficiency.

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
- Coordinates work practices with co-workers to maintain patient flow throughout the office. Thoroughly communicates with patients, coworkers, providers, and leadership staff.

REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Licensure: Valid Michigan Driver’s License. Chauffer’s License. DOT Certified.
- Experience: Previous experience driving large commercial vehicles (i.e., school bus, semi-truck, etc.).
- Skills: Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to multitask. Able to prioritize tasks and efficiently follow-up on pending issues. Strategic thinking. Self-motivated and reliable. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Courteous telephone etiquette. Professional level of reading, writing, typing, computer, and speaking skills. Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with, and relate to, a diverse population in a professional and courteous manner including patients, administrators, and coworkers. Takes initiative in daily responsibilities. Able to communicate in a public setting. Flexible and able to function as a team member. Adept at interacting with children and families.
- Physical Effort: Medium
- Hours of Work: Full-time, flexible and varied. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Consistent attendance is required. Telecommuting is not available for this position.
- Travel: Must be a licensed, DOT Certified driver with a Chauffer’s License with proof of liability and property damage insurance coverage. Extensive travel using/driving GLBHC vehicle. Some overnight assignments may be required.
PREFERRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Experience: Three (3) years’ experience driving large commercial vehicles (i.e., school bus, semi-truck, etc.) Previous clerical experience in a health-related field. Experience working with children and the public.
- Skills: Vision terminology and vision insurance knowledge. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
