Description
The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for testing, documenting, evaluating, remediating, and monitoring internal controls, in order to maintain and improve the integrity of the physical security program. This proactive position evaluates the effectiveness and operational efficiency of security infrastructure in order to safeguard members, employees, contractors, and intangible assets. The Physical Security Specialist works to improve security throughout the organization, maintains organizational integrity, and works with others in a collaborative way.
Work Location: This position is a onsite role at the Headquarters building in East Lansing.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30-5:00 ET + on-call rotation as needed.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range - $61,000-80,000+ dependent on experience and increases with level of role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Security Specialist I:
Assumes a role on the incident response team by responding to incidents, investigating, retaining evidence, and writing and communicating findings of investigation reports of suspicious activities and irregularities
Performs inspections, audits, and assessments of all facilities and security systems to ensure maintenance, functionality, and effectiveness of security. Makes recommendations to management, based on findings, for additional equipment, testing, repairs, preventative maintenance, changes, and up-grades.
Evaluates, monitors, and responds to alerts generated by internal and external systems and sources.
Collaborates with construction team, contractors, and Physical Security Program Director to design, install, and maintain all security systems and ensures timely response to requests and tracks through resolution. Conducts research and provides recommendations for relevant software and equipment upgrades
Stays current on knowledge, technology, trends, and industry best practices through continuous research, educational opportunities, professional publications, personal networks, and professional organizations to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations
Plays a role in the development and delivery of security information and training through training programs and other channels for employees, visitors, and contractors
Participates in development, implementation, maintenance, and testing of emergency procedures and documentation for both existing and anticipated facilities. Continually evaluates procedures in order to ensure practices remain relevant and practical, in a changing environment
Participates in the maintenance and creation of organization wide access control, including key management, policies, training, and electronic access control administration
Ability to successfully create and maintain project level documentation, policies, and procedures,
Analyzes, compiles, and distributes relevant information in a timely manner via various communication channels.
Develops, maintains, updates, executes, and enforces the Credit Union's Physical Security policies and procedures
Available for an on-call rotation as needed
Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Physical Security Specialist II:
All of Level I duties and responsibilities
Works with minimal guidance to complete assigned projects, duties, and tasks, including the development of resources and procedures
Demonstrates a higher level of understanding of the security field through system and process development
Coaches and supports team members and employees to a higher level of understanding of the department and Credit Union security practices and systems
Ability to anticipate Credit Union and department needs to recommend and plan for upgrades, changes, and new practices
Senior Physical Security Specialist:
All of Level I and II duties and responsibilities
Assumes a lead role in the planning, development, and implementation of safety and security processes, procedures, and trainings
Known expert or authority on multiple security topics and systems, to serve as a resource for employees and contractors
Proven leadership through sound decision making and ability to provide guidance to Credit Union employees and team members
Strategic approach to leading and executing projects and tasks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Physical Security Specialist I:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Law Enforcement, Security Sciences, or related Social Science field; or 3 years of experience in emergency management, security system administration, or corporate/financial security with a High School diploma or GED
Must be able to navigate access control platforms and troubleshoot technical hardware and software, understand industry terminology and ability to discuss complex technical issues, in order to communicate with industry professionals and laypersons
High level of technical knowledge and experience in specialized software applications and operating systems required
Ability to maintain sound judgement and objectivity and professionalism in potentially stressful situations
