General Summary:
Saginaw Public Schools Special Education Paraprofessionals are responsible for assisting in the supervision and instruction of a special education classroom and/or special education student(s), under the supervision of a teacher. Candidates must be able to accept supervision, work creatively and skillfully with students, exhibit emotional stability, and demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making. The role also requires physical stamina to assist ambulatory students when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Adapt assignments and classroom materials as directed

Support instruction under the guidance of the classroom teacher

Provide basic health/hygiene support as needed

Assist with student evaluation, testing, and IEP implementation

Assist with behavioral plans outlined in student IEPs
-
Deliver one-on-one or small group instruction
-
Monitor student activities and behavior in various settings
-
Supervise students during lunch, recess, and field trips
-
Maintain clerical records and assist with documentation

Assist with feeding needs of assigned students

Report behavioral incidents and support emergency responses

Provide additional support to ensure an effective learning environment

Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Minimum of 60 semester hours at an accredited college/university or a passing score (460 or higher) on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment

Prior experience working with special education students is preferred
