We are actively seeking a Patient Services Intermediate who is compassionate, enthusiastic, motivated and patient-oriented. This individual will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families as well as our employees
- Supporting referral and authorization needs.
- Work in basket messages
- Responsible for processing referrals using established insurance company guidelines
- Assists with patient account representative responsibilities for the building.
- Responsible for charge reconciliation, insurance verification, etc.
- Serves as a resource for physicians and other staff, patients, and outside third parties for insurance authorizations and other managed care-related issues.
- Deposits
- Reconciles clinic cash collections and credit card transactions daily per standards.
- Ensure completeness of visit information, including type of visit, reason for service, charge for service, and diagnostic codes for processing professional and facility charges.
- Send batch of receipts to Imaging
- Check for out-of-network patients
- Correct invalid DX
- Check and clear work queues that contain edits
- Make sure that charges populate, and the correct DX is associated and corresponds to EKG verification.
- Verify No-shoes are no-shows
- Check open/closed encounters and verify charges
- Track open encounters for delinquency
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3-4 Years of experience
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Prior experience performing complex scheduling
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting
- Communicates effectively
- Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary clinical setting.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
- Expected to be proficient in identifying problems, seeking and implementing solution
- Familiarity with obtaining medical records and professional medical billing
- Experience working within a large complex healthcare setting
- Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems
- Knowledge of UMHS policies and procedures
- 40 hours Monday-Friday
- 8:30 - 5 p.m. or 9:00 - 5:30 p.m.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
