General Description:
Provide majority of tutorial assistance for science courses within your discipline(s). Disciplines include Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Earth Science, and Physics. Maintain accurate records and data, develop tutorial materials, present to science classes each semester.
- Provide Tutorial assistance to students in science courses
- Develop tutoring materials in collaboration with the Tutoring Center Manager
- Refer students to other NCMC support services
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, monitor, and staff the Science Lab.
- Collaborate with instructors to support classroom tutoring needs
- Assist students in current technology to be used in classroom instruction
- Assist the Tutoring Center Manager in observing new student tutors and tracking student success.
- Meet with Science instructors and their classes each semester to promote services
- Provide tutorial assistance to students.
- Conduct informal intake and diagnosis
- Assist students in defining academic success and monitor their progress
- Meet with students individually and in small groups for content area tutoring and study skill development
- Encourage student participation in tutoring
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation using Starfish
- Meet with Science instructors to discuss areas of concern regarding individual students.
- Develop tutoring materials in collaboration with the Tutoring Center Manager in the following areas: training sessions, tutoring sessions, content area, & study skills.
- Refer students to other NCMC support services using Starfish
- Maintain knowledge of all support services being offered by NCMC
- Participate in tutorial service conferences/professional development.
- Maintains work area in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Major or minor in applicable field)
- Ex: Biology, Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- Tutorial or teaching experience
- Demonstrated communication skills in working with a diverse population
- Knowledge and/or commitment to the community college philosophy and mission
- Knowledge and/or commitment to the academically at-risk student
- Knowledge of technology for communication and tutoring students

Pay Rate: $23.50/hr. - $29.25/hr., commensurate with education/experience
Hours: Up to 28 hours per week
