This position is paid for through Edustaff, who’s your employer, and your worksite is North Central Michigan College.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Food Service Baker will work independently to provide all (from scratch) baked goods as directed by the Director of Food Service and Conference Center. The expectation will be quality baked goods in an economical fashion, in a timely manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Confer with Director to determine the needs for baked goods each week.
- Produce the agreed upon baked goods (marked, dated, and ready to serve) in a timely manner.
- Baker will be expected to have 95% or better success rate.
- Baker will be responsible for seeking out new recipes and techniques.
- Baker will be responsible for alerting Director (or other responsible party) to ingredient needs in sufficient time to keep the process running smoothly.
- Baker must be ServSafe certified, or willing to become certified within 6 weeks of hiring, and is expected to follow all safe food service guidelines.
- As a member of the Food Service Team, the Baker may occasionally be asked to help in other ways in the kitchen.
- The Baker should be willing to utilize other employees as needed to complete assigned tasks.
- The Baker will be expected to keep Baking Area stocked and clean.
- Have and maintain fundamental knowledge and mastery of cooking techniques.
- Be familiar with and follow safe food handling practices, maintain a sanitary food preparation area, and maintain/obtain ServSafe Certification.
- Work with the Director to ensure proper preparation and presentation of non-grill foods and special event menus by following directives from the Director regarding recipes, presentation, timetables, etc.
- Will be required to work independently, as needed, to ensure proper preparation and presentation of non-grill foods and food for special events.
- Be familiar with the function and operation of all professional kitchen equipment.
- Prepare food for next shift as needed, as specified by the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) to three (3) years of directly applicable Food Serving/Baking experience performing the equivalent of the tasks described above.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced, self-directed environment.
- Demonstrated work history of or ability to provide high quality (from scratch) baked goods with attention to and awareness of current trends.

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour
Hours: Up to 28 hours per week, schedule negotiable
