Basic Function and Responsibility: To supervise and coordinate the activities of the Specimen Processing staff on each shift in order to assure accurate and timely processing of laboratory specimens and customer service support.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service: Provide total customer focus to meet the needs of every customer, internal and external, including medical staff, laboratory staff, patients, and families.
Specimen Processing ? Bench Work: Complete training on all work benches in Specimen Processing. Has working knowledge of all benches. Direct, and assist staff with specimen processing, problem solving. Fill in on bench when necessary due to staffing levels or high work volumes.
Personnel: Prepare weekly schedules, record biweekly time, monitor unscheduled absences, apply progressive discipline policies, coach/mentor staff and prepare and conduct six month and annual performance evaluations.
Training: Assist Training Specialist in training, documentation, and developing training material. Arrange for staff to attend mandatory in-services as scheduled. Monitor staff performance and add training as needed.
Quality Assurance: Participate in Quality Assurance activities, including requisition QA, callback log review, competency assessment of employees, and updating procedure manuals. Develop and implement QA activities.
Communication: Communicate information to SP staff, laboratories, and SP supervisor and manager. Conduct daily huddles. Participate in meetings with Lab Manager and other Supervisors. Fulfill On-call assignments weekends and holidays.
Planning: Participate in planning for and implementing new work-flow processes, including testing and training for new computer system implementation. Contribute ideas and help implement changes such as workflow reorganization.
Professional Development: Attend HRD courses, in-services, and/or meetings that contribute to professional growth.
In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
- High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work with/in all laboratory environmental conditions, including infectious diseases and materials.
- Associate or Bachelor degree preferred along with scientific classes at a college level.
- Previous experience as a laboratory or health care technician.
This full time, 40 hour position is on the evening shift and will require rotating holidays, weekends and on-call.
