Position Summary:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Working with 4-H Council members in planning, leading, and carrying out activities
- Working directly with 4-H staff or volunteers on fair-related activities, including planning, preparing and leading a station at the Luce West Mackinac County Fair.
- Working with the UP Camp planning committee to plan, prepare, and lead several activities during UP 4-H Camp.
- Assisting with Summer 4-H programs.
- Planning, preparing, and running at least 1 Luce County Day Camp.
- Supporting Exploration Days delegation and orientation with direction from 4-H staff.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
The work schedule is flexible based upon daily program needs and includes some mandatory night and weekend activities. Position reports to the County 4-H Program Coordinator.
Desired Qualifications
Applicants must be attending or entering college, post high school education, along with being a 4-H Alumni if having participated.
- Participating in 4-H as a youth is preferred.
A successful applicant will be an individual who is flexible, independent, and a self-starter who handles pressure well. They must be able to complete a variety of administrative assistant duties and work independently, following direction well.
- Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities, and other differences to assist with program development and outreach.
- Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
- Combination of education and specific, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.
- Transportation is the responsibility of the employee.
- Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).
- Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
